    л The Master (K. Pluzhnikov) has a flair for good young opera singers. It is not by accident that he invited Konstantin Kotelnikov, a tenor from the Kishinev Opera to take part in the first performance, that he directed, having recognized in him a brilliant tenor individuality and natural artistic demeanour. Kotelnikov is a valuable acquisition for theatrical St. Petersburg and we should honour to Pluzhnikov for that. In the part of count Almaviva Kotelnikov stands through almost all the part in a high register constantly confirming his tenor significance and delights the audience with the transparance of high notes.╗

    лI have not expected to hear, nowadays, an almost ideal Almaviva - Konstantin Kotelnikov (Odessa school, a soloist of the MALEGOT - The Musorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre). Kotelnikov not only has unique essential qualities for successful singing of Rossini (easy emission, mobility of the voice, he has no problems with the highest C, etc.) but also sings his part intelligently, possesses the secrets of grace singing. Add his southerner looks of the early silent cinema type and the recipe лhow to become a star╗ is ready.╗

    лIn St. Petersburg Leiferkus sang one of his best parts - Eugene Onegin. The actual dialogue ensued not with Tatyana but with Lensky - young Konstantin Kotelnikov, musical, nervous and dainty. His voice is light like a feather and sensitive towards emotional motions. There appeared a sensitive interchange between him and Leiferkus. The duet-canon of Onegin and Lensky before the duel became the culmination of the evening when the voices touched each other in love-hatred. One wished to believe that the star rival would not kill the tenor but give him л a start in life╗ as they used to say in the past.╗

    лThe chief director of the theatre S. L. Gaudasinsky entrusted Konstantin with the part of Alfred in the last premiere of the theatre лDie Fledermaus╗. It is a test for opera singers to take part in a musical comedy: the лlight╗ genre is difficult due to its synthetic character, all-round demands to the performer. Few opera singers can stand this test. Konstantin was such a success that he received an invitation from maestro A. Belinsky to participate in the production of лDas Veilchen von Montmartre╗ (лParis in Spring╗).
